Sermon Synopsis for 4/23/17: “The Ascended Mediator”

We just came through another Easter season when all around the world two primary messages were trumpeted, “It is finished” and “He is alive!” The provision for all men’s salvation has been fully packaged in Jesus’ death, coupled with His ensuing resurrection. And why the resurrection? Because it gives the death of Death and Jesus’ offer of life God’s most powerful stamp of approval.

Process the logic. For the sake of argument, let’s concur that Jesus died in order pay for sins. What proof do we have that the Triune was God satisfied with that payment? How do we know His anger towards our sin was placated? Jesus’ Resurrection! Seeing any dead guy come bounding out of a tomb speaks reams about the kind of power behind the event. So if God can perform the greater, He can certainly perform the lesser; if He can resurrect the dead, He can surely forgive sin.
So Jesus arose because “It is finished.” Everything we need in order to get our individual ticket punched for Heaven has been purchased. But this does not mean that all of Jesus’ work is done! “What? What does ‘It is finished’ mean if it isn’t?” Yes, the pathway of salvation is complete and Jesus doesn’t need do one more blessed thing (and it was blessed) to open the door of His Kingdom for anyone to enter. Salvation is now in our individual courts – to believe or not.

Yet Jesus hasn’t stopped working on our behalf since the day He ascended back into Heaven. Where once He worked to provide for our salvation, getting us in the door, now He works to perfect our sanctification, growing us inside the door to be worthy Kingdom citizens.

Why not come this Sunday to hear more about what Jesus is doing for you right now?
