Sermon Synopsis December 17: “No Ordinary Birth”

I have a question for all you moms out there: “What are some of the common features you share with most other moms when it comes to giving birth?” Grueling pain – and more pain – such pain that, “We’re never doing this again!” – UNTIL that baby arrives, and the agony transforms into ecstasy. (You’re right, Ladies, I’m speaking from experiential ignorance.) “What else?” “There’s no more euphoric feeling than cuddling that new little life!” “Good, what else?” “Nine months that can’t come soon enough!” “Anything else about your newborn?” Oh, you wish you could skip over those teenage years. Kidding.

How about this feature? You likely delivered your baby in a sterile hospital and were ensconced by a fully qualified obstetrician and competent nurse. It wasn’t always that way, and not so very long ago. My maternal grandma, for example, delivered all her five babies at home; and grandad served as her doc.

There was once another birth, one around which our very calendars are dated. This fact alone signals how very unique it was. Why not come this Sunday morning to hear more one the subject of, “No Ordinary Birth?”
